Westfjords The westfjords peninsula is Iceland's most rugged region which was carved by icecaps and glaciers into deep fjords and alternating steep headlands. Isafjördur, the largest settlement on the peninsula, is a good place to stay overnight. The Látrabjarg cliffs which are up to 400 meters high are worth to visit as they have the densest population of bird life in Iceland. This is a good place to spot the puffins.
Vatnajökull Vatnajökull (Water Glacier) is Iceland's greatest icecap. Jökulsárlón (Glacial River Lagoon) is an obligatory stop if you pass the village Höfn. It's full of large icebergs and gives an Arctic impression.
Mývaten The area around Mývaten is famous due to its volcanic or geothermal features. There are many nice walks to spot fields of lava or craters.
